Vaamu Annam ~ Ajwain Rice ~ Rice with Tymol seeds

In this post I’m going to present a healthy and easy to prepare dish.  Vaamu or Ajwain or Tymol seeds are generally used in the preparation of murukulu or jantikalu.  But we can also prepare rice item with Vaamu as main ingrediant. Believe me, it gives a nice taste and I’m sure you are going to love it.

It is considered as one of the healthy dishes because these seeds are used as home remedies for some kind of stomach pains and they wash up the stomach. 

Required Ingrediants:

Cooked Rice

For popu or tadka or seasoning:

  • Mustard seeds
  • Gram Dal
  • Urad Dal
  • Cumin seeds
  • Curry Leaves
  • Red Chillies
  • Green Chillies
  • Turmeric Pwd
  • Oil
  • Salt
  • Vaamu

Preparation Method:

  • Cook the rice and keep it aside.
  • In a wide pan heat oil.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the curry leaves and mustard seeds.
  • Once the seeds pop up add the rest of the ingrediants under the popu section and mix them well.

  • Make sure you added sufficient amount of salt.

You can omit adding salt at this stage by adding it in the rice while cooking it.

  • Now add the cooked rice and stir for 2 mins.
  • Tasty delicious Vaamu rice is ready to be served.
