Simple Cabbage Curry


Very simple and tasty cabbage curry. It goes well with rice and roti.

Ingredients:

Cabbage – 1 lb
Fresh grated coconut – 1/4 cup
Green Peas – 1/4 cup

Onion – 1 medium size
Cilantro (Coriander Leaves) – 5 stems

Mustard seeds
Chana Dal
Urad Dal (split)

Garlic – 1
Cumin seeds
Green chillies – as per your taste

Turmeric – as per your taste
Salt – as per your taste

Note: You can always vary the quantity and proportion of ingredients as per your taste. You even can include additional items if you feel they enhance the taste of the dish.

Preparation:

Cut onion, cabbage and cilantro into little pieces. Grate coconut and keep all these aside. Make a soft paste with garlic, cumin seeds and green chillies. Soak green peas for 12 hrs and boil them till they are completely cooked. Alternatively you can use ready to use peas in the market. Using peas in this recipe is optional.

Stove top:

Take a wide non-stick pan. Pour 2 tea spoons of oil and heat it.
Add mustard seeds, chana dal and urad dal. Saute them.
After that add onions and stir them until they are light brown.
Then add cabbage and turmeric to this and let it fry for 5 minutes. Do not close with lid.
To this add the garlic and green chilli paste and let it fry for 2 minutes.
Then add grated coconut and green peas.
After 5 minutes add salt and cilantro. Then cook for 2 minutes.
Switch off the stove and serve hot.
